Abstract :
Themonitoringofneutronembrittlementandlow-cyclefatigueinnuclearreactorsteelisanimportanttopicinlifetimeextensionofnuclearpowerplants.Amongseveralmaterialparametersthatmaychangeduetomaterialdegradationarethethermoelectricproperties.Therefore,weinvestigatedtheapplicationoftheSeebeckeffectfordeterminingmaterialdegradationofcommonreactorpressurevessel(RPV)steel.TheSeebeckcoefficients(SC)ofseveralirradiatedCharpyspecimensmadefromJapanesereferencesteelJRQweremeasured.Thespecimenssufferedfluencesfrom0upto4.5E19neutrons/cm2,withenergieshigherthan1MeV.MeasuredchangesoftheSCwithinthisrangewereabout500nV/°C,increasingcontinuouslyintherangeunderinvestigation.Someindicationsofsaturationappearedatfluencieslargerthan4.5E19neutrons/cm2.WeobtainedalineardependencybetweentheSCandthetemperatureshiftΔT41oftheCharpyenergyversustemperaturecurve,whichiswidelyusedtocharacterizematerialembrittlement.
