Abstract :
SafetyassessmentofIndiannuclearcontainmentshasbeencarriedoutforaircraftimpact.TheloadingtimehistoryforBoeingandAirbuscategoriesofaircraftsisgeneratedbasedontheprincipleofmomentumtransferofcrushableaircrafts.ThecasestudiesincludetheanalysisofBWRMarkIIIcontainmentasabenchmarkproblemandanalysesofPressurisedHeavyWaterReactorcontainment(innerandoutercontainment)forimpulsiveloadingduetoaircraftimpact.Initially,theloadisappliedonoutercontainmentwallmodelandsubsequentlytheloadistransferredtoinnercontainmentafterthelocalperforationoftheoutercontainmentwallisnoticedinthetransientsimulation.Theanalysismethodologyevolvedinthepresentworkwouldbeusefulforstudyingthebehaviorofdoublecontainmentwallsandmultibarrierstructuralconfigurationsforaircraftimpactwithhigherenergies.ThepresentanalysisillustratesthatwiththeprovisionofdoublecontainmentsforIndiannuclearpowerplants,adequatereservestrengthisavailableforthecaseofanextremelylowprobabilityeventofmissileimpactgeneratedduetothecommercialaircraftsoperatedinIndia.
