Abstract :
Theeffectofratchetingonfatiguestrengthwasinvestigatedinordertorationalizethestrainlimitasadesigncriterionofcommercializedfastreactorsystems.Ratchetingfatiguetestswereconductedat550°C.Durationoftheratchetstrainingwassetforacertainnumberofstraincyclestakingtheloadingconditionoffastreactorsintoaccount,andthenumberofcyclesforstrainaccumulationwasdefinedastheratchet-expiredcycle.Fatiguelivesdecreaseastheaccumulatedstrainbyratchetingincreases.Meanstressincreasedduringtheratchetingcycleanditsmaximumvaluedependedontheaccumulatedstrainandtheratchet-expiredcycle.Fatiguelifereductionwasnegligiblewhenthemaximummeanstresswaslessthan25MPa,correspondingtoanaccumulatedstrainof2.2%.Accumulatedstrainislimitedto2%inthepresentdesignguidelinesandthisstrainlimitisconsideredeffectivetoavoidreducingfatiguelifebyratcheting.Microcrackgrowthbehaviorswerealsoinvestigatedinthesetestsinordertodiscussthelifereductionmechanismsinratchetingconditions.
