Abstract :
Inthispaper,theCFDcodeDET3Disdescribedwhichhasbeenusedforsimulatinghydrogendetonationsincomplexthree-dimensionalgeometriesoccuringinassumedaccidentscenariosinnuclearreactors.
Afterashortdescriptionofthecode,twovalidationcalculationsforDET3Dagainstexperimentsarediscussedindetail,bothshowinggoodagreementbetweencalculationandexperiment:(i)ahydrogen–airdetonationina12 mlongstraighttubewithatruelythree-dimensionalinnerobstacle,and(ii)apureradiolyticgasdetonationina5 mlongU-shapedtubeat44 barinitialpressure.
Asrequiredbythe‘BestPracticeGuidelines’approach,resultsonthedependenceofthecomputedsolutiononthemeshsize,thenumericalalgorithm,andthechemicalreactionschemearealsogiven.WhereaschangingthemeshsizeisstandardandeasytodowithDET3Dandcanbeusedtoestablishnumericalconvergence,theinfluenceoftheothertwofeaturesstillneedsfurtherstudy.
