Abstract :
ThisstudyfocusesonpredictingthechangesingraphitedensityandmechanicalstrengthinVHTRduringtheair-ingressaccidentviathermalhydraulicsystemanalysiscode.Asimplegraphiteburn-offmodelwasdevelopedbasedonthesimilaritiesbetweenaparallelelectricalcircuitandgraphiteoxidation.ThedevelopedmodelalongwithothercomprehensivegraphiteoxidationmodelswereintegratedintotheVHTRsystemanalysiscode,GAMMA.GT-MHR600MWtreactorwasselectedasareferencereactor.Basedonthecalculation,themainoxidationprocesswasobserved5.5daysaftertheaccidentwhenfollowedbynaturalconvection.Thecoremaximumtemperaturereached1430°C,butneverexceededthemaximumtemperaturecriteria,1600°C.However,theoxidationprocessdidsignificantlydecreasethedensityofbottomreflector,makingitvulnerabletomechanicalstress.Thestressonthebottomreflectorisgreatlyincreasedbecauseofthereductionofloadedsurfaceareawithgraphiteoxidation.Thecalculationproceededuntil11daysaftertheaccident,resultinginanobserved4.5%decreaseindensityanda25%reductionofmechanicalstrength.
