Abstract :
Thepurposeofthispaperistopresenttheresultsoftheexperimentalinvestigationofthethermalhydrauliccharacteristicsfortwotypesoftestsections—thinannularpebblebeds(i.e.spheresdumpedinthinannularslots)andpebblebedsplacedbetweencylinders.Theexperimentalresultsofheattransferfromthespheresandfromacylinder,aswellashydraulicdragforbothtypesoftestsectionsarepresentedinthispaper.TheresultsofperformedexperimentsinthecaseofthinannularpebblebedsdemonstratedthatmaximumheattransferandhydraulicdragisattherelativewidthoftheannularslotKequalto1.07and1.75ofspheresdiameter.TheheattransferininternallayersatthesevaluesofKisequaltotheheattransferintheinternallayersoflarge(unlimited)rhombicpacking.Theresultsoftheexperimentalinvestigationofpebblebedsbetweencylindersdemonstratedthattherandomlyarrangedpebblebedispreferabletotheregularrhombicstructurefromthepointofviewofdesignsimplicity,heattransferfromthecylinderanddragcoefficient.
