Abstract :
Intentionaldepressurizationisoneoftheeffectivestrategiesinpreventinghigh-pressuremeltejection(HPME)anddirectcontainmentheating(DCH),whichismostfeasiblefortheoperatingnuclearpowerplants(NPPs)inChina.InordertoevaluatethisstrategyofaChinese600MWePWRNPP,theplantmodelisbuiltusingSCDAP/RELAP5code.ATWS,SBO,SGTRandSLOCAareselectedasthebasecasesforanalysisofintentionaldepressurization.Theresultsshowthatopeningsafetyvalvesofpressurizermanuallywhenthecoreexittemperatureexceeds922KcanreducetheRCSpressureeffectivelyandpreventtheoccurrenceofHPMEandDCH.Severaluncertaintiessuchastheoperabilityofsafetyvalves,ex-vesselfailureandthetransitoryriseofRCSpressurearealsoanalyzedsubsequently.Theresultsshowthattheopeningofthesafetyvalvescanbeinitiatednormallyandthatopeningthreesafetyvalvesisamorefavorablestrategyintheeventofpossiblefailureofoneormoreofthesafetyvalves;theprobabilityofex-vesselfailureisreducedafterintentionaldepressurizationisimplemented;thetransitoryrisingofreactorcoolantsystem(RCS)pressurewhenthemoltencorematerialsrelocatetothelowerheadofreactorpressurevessel(RPV)willnotinfluencetheeffectofdepressurization.
