Abstract :
ThispaperpresentsastudyofthetsunamihazardduetosubmarineearthquakesatapowerplantsiteontheeastcoastofIndia.Thepaperconsidersvarioussourcesofearthquakesfromthetectonicinformation,andrecordsofpastearthquakesandtsunamis.Magnitude–frequencyrelationshipforearthquakeoccurrencerateandasimplifiedmodelfortsunamirun-upheightasafunctionofearthquakemagnitudeandthedistancebetweenthesourceandsitehavebeendeveloped.Finally,consideringequallikelihoodofgenerationofearthquakesanywhereoneachofthefaults,thetsunamihazardhasbeenevaluatedandpresentedasarelationshipbetweentsunamiheightanditsmeanrecurrenceinterval(MRI).Probabilityofexceedenceofacertainwaveheightinagivenperiodoftimeisalsopresented.Thesestudieswillbehelpfulinmakinganestimateofthetsunami-inducedfloodingpotentialatthesite.
