Abstract :
DuringtherefuelingoutageperiodofPWRnuclearpowerplants,thein-coremovabledetectorthimbleslocatedinsidefuelassembliesarewithdrawnfromthesealtable,andinsertedagainastherefuelingisfinished.Thethimblehandlingprocesshasbeencommonlyperformedmanually.However,themanualhandlingprocesscangivemanydrawbacksincludingunsatisfactorylaborefficiencyduetothenarrowandhighradiationworkingenvironmentaroundthesealtable,andthepossibilityofgivingseriousdamagetothedelicatethimblescausedbyunevenforceexertedonthethimbles.Inordertominimizeradiationexposuretotheworkersandmaintainthethimblessafely,aneasy-to-useandrobustthimbleservicetoolhasbeendeveloped.TheperformanceofthetoolwasverifiedatthetestfacilityandKori#3unit(Westinghousedesign,1000MWe).
