Abstract
Thispaperisconcernedwiththemechanisticmodelingandtheoretical/computationalanalysisofflowandheattransferinfutureGeneration-IVSupercriticalWater-CooledReactors(SCWRs).Theissuesdiscussedinthepaperinclude:thedevelopmentofanalyticalmodelsofthepropertiesofsupercriticalwaterandtheapplicationofafullthree-dimensional(3-D)computationalmodelingframeworktosimulatefluidflowandheattransferinSCWRs.
Severalresultsofcalculationsareshownincludingtheevaluationofwaterproperties(density,specificheat,thermalconductivity,viscosity,andPrandtlnumber)nearthepseudo-criticaltemperatureforvarioussupercriticalpressuresandtheCFDpredictionsusingtheNPHASEcomputercode.
ItisdemonstratedthattheproposedapproachisverypromisingforfuturemechanisticanalysesofSCWRthermal-hydraulicsandsafety.
