Abstract :
ThePressurizedWaterReactorOwnersGroup(PWROG)methodologyforextendingtheinserviceinspectionintervalforreactorvesselweldsinpressurizedwaterreactorsisdescribedintechnicalreport,WCAP-16168-NP,Revision1.Thisreportpresentsarisk-informedbasisforextendingtheintervalbetweeninspectionsfromthecurrentintervalof10–20years.ThispaperdiscussesthebackgroundofthePWROGinserviceinspectionintervalextensionmethodologyandtheresultsofpilotplantstudiesontypicalWestinghouse,CombustionEngineering,andBabcockandWilcoxplantdesigns.ThesepilotplantstudiesshowedthatthechangeinriskassociatedwiththeproposedinspectionintervalextensionwaswithintheguidelinesspecifiedintheUnitedStatesNuclearRegulatoryCommission(NRC)RegulatoryGuide1.174foranacceptablysmallchangeinrisk.Thispaperalsodiscussestheapplicationoftheextendedintervaltootherpressurizedwaterreactorsandprovidesexamplesoftheapplication.
