Abstract :
Theaccuracyofcomputationalfluiddynamicsinsimulatingthecross-flowaroundasteamgeneratorandthefeasibilityofafullscalecoupledCFD/FEAfluid–structure-interaction(FSI)analysisisexaminedthroughsuccessivevalidations. Thestudybeginswithacomparisonbetweenexperimentandcomputationofflowwithinastationarytubebank.Resultsfromthesimulationofanindividualtubeexperiencingtwo-degree-of-freedomflow-inducedvibration(ataReynoldsnumberof3800)arethenshowntocomparefavorablytoexperimentalresults.Finally,freevibrationofasinglecantileveredhydrofoilissimulatedwithcomparisonofmeansquareaccelerationatresonantandnon-resonantvelocities,respectively.Themagnitudesandfrequenciesofvibrationareshowntobeaccuratelycaptured.
