Abstract :
Theoxidationofgraphiteinnormaloperatingconditionsisaveryimportantfactorwhenevaluatingtheservicetimeofthegraphitestructuralmaterialinahightemperaturegas-cooledreactor(HTGR).Thispaperdealswiththemodelingofgraphiteoxidationbysteamintheheliumchannelofafuelblock.TheFEMsoftwareCOMSOLisused:theturbulentflowofthecoolantissimulatedbyusingthek–ɛmodelandthechemicalreactionisexpressedbytheLangmuir–Hinshelwoodequation.Calculationswerecarriedoutforsteampressuresaround1Paandfordifferenttemperaturedistributions.Theinfluenceofburn-offandthediffusioningraphiteporositieswerebothconsideredintheoxidation.Resultsshowthatoxidationmainlyoccurredonthegraphitesurfaceatthebottomofthecorebecauseofthehighertemperature.Thethicknessofgraphitewithaburn-offhigherthan8%wasabout1mmatthecorebase.Lessthan15%ofsteamwasconsumedinthecoolantchannelofthefuelassemblies.Calculationsalsoshowedthatthemeangasificationrateinonechannelforthesecondservicetimewaslargerthanthefirstservicetime.
