Abstract :
TheoptimizedHtypegridspringofanewdesignfortheZirconiumalloyspacergridsforanadvancedLWRfuelassemblyisdeveloped.Characterizationtestsareconductedforthisspringandtheloadvs.displacementcurveofthespringcharacteristicsisobtained.Also,fourFEMmodels,whichconsistedoftwo5×5cellmodels,one6×9cellmodelandone8×9cellmodel,weredevelopedbytheIDEAScodeandtheywereanalyzedbytheABAQUScodeinordertosimulatethenewlydesignedspringcharacteristics.TheresultsoftheFEanalysisarecomparedwiththoseofthespringcharacterizationtestandthefollowingconclusionswereobtained.First,sinceamodelwhichincludesalotofcellsbelowthelocationoftheappliedloadhasmanygapsduetomoreslits,thespringcharacteristicsofthemodelaremoreflexible.Second,amongthefourFEMmodels,theresultofthe5×5cellmodelappliedtothedisplacementloadatthetopofthemodelwasingoodagreementwiththetestresult.Therefore,whenanewlydesignedspringforaspacergridassemblyisdeveloped,itsspringcharacteristicscanbeestimatedbyananalysiswithanappropriateFEMmodelwithoutthespringcharacterizationtest.
