  • Abstract
    Intherecenttimes,computer-basedsystemsarefrequentlyusedforprotectionandcontrolofNuclearPowerPlants(NPPs).IntheconventionalProbabilisticSafetyAssessment(PSA),thecontributionfromsoftwareinthesecomputer-basedsystemswasnotgivennecessaryattention.However,fromoperatingexperience,ithasbeenfoundfailuresinsuchsystemscanalsoresultininitiatingeventsthathavethepotentialforleadingintoCoreDamageintheeventofunavailabilityoftherespectiveEngineeredSafetyFeatures.Theimpactofatypicalcomputer-basedsystemonPSAofIndianNuclearPowerPlantisdemonstrated.
