Abstract
Modellingthebehaviouroffissionproduct(FP)inanuclearreactorcoolantsystem(RCS)undergoingahypotheticalsevereaccidentisanimportantstepintheevaluationofradioactivereleaseoutsideanuclearpowerplant.TheSOPHAEROSmodule,partoftheASTECsystem,aimsatsimulatingmainFPvapourandaerosolphenomenaintheRCS.Newcapabilitiesofthemoduleareherepresented,suchaschemistrycomputationandextendedcircuitconfiguration.Afteradescriptionofthemodels,twoapplicationsarepresented.ThefirstoneisacompletesevereaccidentsequenceconsideringalltheRCSloops.Itshowsanon-negligibleFPretentioninalltheloopsandoutlinestheneedforadeterministicapproachtobetteraccountofalltheRCSandnotonlythemainestimatedpathforFPrelease.ThesecondapplicationisfocusedonacomplexpartoftheRCSgenerallysimplifiedinalltheFPtransportmodel:thereactorvesselupperplenum.FPretentioninthisvolumeisnotwellestimated.TheSOPHAEROScodeappliedtothisvolumeshowsthatFPretentionisunder-estimated,possiblyleadingtooverconservativeresults.
