Abstract :
Extensivevibrationtestshavebeenperformedonpile-supportedstructuresatalarge-scaleminingsite.Groundmotionsinducedbylarge-scaleblastingoperationswereusedasexcitationforcesforvibrationtests.Themainobjectiveofthisresearchistoinvestigatethedynamicbehaviorofpile-supportedstructures,inparticular,pile-groupeffects.
Twoteststructureswereconstructedinanexcavated4mdeeppit.Onestructurehad25steeltubularpilesandtheotherhad4piles.Thesuper-structureswereexactlythesame.Thetestpitwasbackfilledwithsandofappropriategrainsizedistributionsinordertoobtaingoodcompaction,especiallybetweenthe25piles.Accelerationsweremeasuredatthestructures,inthetestpitandintheadjacentfreefield,andpilestrainsweremeasured.
Thevibrationtestswereperformedsixtimeswithdifferentlevelsofinputmotions.Themaximumhorizontalaccelerationrecordedattheadjacentgroundsurfacevariedfrom57cm/s2to1683cm/s2accordingtothedistancesbetweenthetestsiteandtheblastareas.Maximumstrainswere13,400micro-strainswererecordedatthepiletopofthe4-pilestructure,whichmeansthatthesepilesweresubjectedtoyielding.
