Abstract :
Thisstudyisdevotedtotheeffectofamultiaxialstressstateandofpre-strainingonthecreeppropertiesofanausteniticstainlesssteel.Creeptestsonbothsmoothandnotchedspecimenshavebeencarriedoutontype316L(N)steelat600°C.Incomparisontotheannealedstate,pre-strainingcausedasubstantialincreaseincreeplifetimebutalsoadramaticdropinintergranulardamageresistance.Theeffectofapre-strainoncreepductilitywassostrongthatcompacttensionspecimensinpre-strainedstatetestedunderrelaxationconditionscracked,whereasspecimensinannealedstatewerenotpronetocracking.Amodeltakingintoaccountbothpre-strainandmultiaxialeffectswasdevelopedandidentifiedonthebasisoflocalintergranularmicro-cracksmeasurementsonnotchedspecimens.Itsatisfactorilypredictstheresultsofrelaxationcrackpropagationtests.Thismodelmayalsoprovideausefulestimationoftherelaxationcrackingriskof316L(N)asafunctionofpre-strainlevelandstresstriaxialityratio.
