  • Abstract
    Theliquidfilmcharacteristicsattheonsetoffloodinginaninclinedpipe(16mmi.d.and2.2minlength)havebeeninvestigatedexperimentally.Aconstantelectriccurrentmethodandvisualobservationwereutilizedtoelucidatetheflowmechanismsattheonsetofflooding.Twomechanismsareclarifiedtocontrolthefloodinginlowerfloodingandupperflooding,respectively.Thelowerfloodingoccurredatlowerliquidflowrateandhighpipeinclinationangle.Inthismechanism,theliquidfilmdoesnotblockthepipecross-section.Ontheotherhand,theupperfloodingoccurredathigherliquidflowrateandlowpipeinclinationangle.Inthiscase,blockingofthepipecross-sectionbylargewaveandentrainmentplaysanimportantrole.Theexperimentaldataindicatedthattherewasnoreversalmotionofliquidfilmattheonsetoffloodingduringtheoperationofbothlowerfloodingandupperflooding.Theeffectsofpipeinclinationangleontheonsetoffloodingarealsodiscussed.
