Abstract :
ResultsoftheLevel1ProbabilisticSafetyAssessmentoftheIgnalinaNuclearPowerPlanthaveshownthatintherisktopographytransientsaredominating.Analysishasshownthatfailureofthelong-termcorecoolingisthemaincontributortothecoredamagefrequency.However,thereactorcoredamageinthelong-termindicatesthepotentialopportunitiesfortheaccidentmanagement.ThemaingoalofaccidentmanagementistoavoidamultiplefuelchannelrupturebecauseconsideringthedesignofRBMKreactorstheconsequencesofruptureofmorethan11–16FCatfullpressurewouldbeclosetotheconsequencesofChernobylaccident.Thispaperpresentsadetailedthermal–hydraulicanalysisoftheaccidentswiththelossoflong-termcorecooling,performedusingtheRELAP5modelofIgnalinaNPPreactorcoolingcircuitandsafetysystems.Differentwaysofpotentialaccidentmanagementarediscussed.Onthebasisofthisanalysistheaccidentmanagementstrategywasdeveloped.
