Abstract
AcomputercodeRANNSwasdevelopedtoanalyzefuelrodbehaviorsinthereactivity-initiatedaccident(RIA)conditions.RANNSperformsthermalandfinite-elementmechanicalcalculationforasinglerodinaxis-symmetricgeometry,wherefuelpelletconsistsof36equal-volumeringelementsandcladdingmetallicwallconsistsofeightequal-thicknessringelementsandoneouteroxideelement.Thecodecancalculatetemperatureprofileinsidetherod,contactpressuregeneratedbypellet–cladmechanicalinteraction(PCMI),stress–straindistributionandtheirinteractionselaborately.AnexperimentalanalysisbyRANNSbeginswithpre-testconditionsofirradiatedrodwhicharegivenbythefuelperformancecodeFEMAXI-6.
