Abstract
Sincemanyyears,theForschungszentrumKarlsruhehasbeenworkingontheresearchanddevelopmentofanacceleratordrivensub-criticalsystem(ADS)cooledbylead–bismutheutectic(LBE).AlthoughvariousnumericaltoolsforthermalhydraulicshavebeenestablishedattheForschungszentrumKarlsruhe,reliablyvalidatedphysicalmodelsrelatedtoturbulentheattransferinLBEflowsarestillmissing.Especially,physicalmodelsonheattransferandturbulentPrandtlnumberhavetobere-evaluatedinLBEconditionstoimprovethereliabilityofnumericaltools.Inthepresentpaper,reviewandassessmentoftheexistingphysicalmodelsaremade.Computationalfluiddynamics(CFD)analysisiscarriedoutforcirculartubegeometries.BasedontheassessmentoftheexistingmodelsandtheCFDresultsachieved,recommendationsaremadeoncorrelationsofheattransferandturbulentPrandtlnumberfornumericalapplicationstoLBEflows.
