Abstract
Themodularhigh-temperaturegas-cooledreactor(MHTGR)hasdistinctadvantagesintermsofinherentsafety,economicspotential,highefficiency,potentialusageforhydrogenproduction,etc.TheChinesedesignoftheMHTGR,namedashigh-temperaturegas-cooledreactor-pebblebedmodule(HTR-PM),basedonthetechnologyandexperienceoftheHTR-10,iscurrentlyintheconceptualphase.TheHTR-PMdemonstrationplantisplannedtobefinishedby2012.ThemainphilosophyoftheHTR-PMprojectcanbepinneddownas:(1)safety,(2)standardization,(3)economy,and(4)proventechnology.Theworkinthecategoriesofmarketing,organization,projectandtechnologyisdoneinpredefinedorder.ThebiggestchallengefortheHTR-PMistoensureitseconomicalviabilitywhilemaintainingitsinherentsafety.Adesignofa450MWthannularpebblebedcoreconnectedwithsteamturbineisaimedforandpresentedinthispaper.
