  • Abstract
    ThedirectcouplingofaGasCooledReactor(GCR)withaclosedgas-turbinecycleleadstoaspecificdynamicplantbehaviour.ThisbehaviourisdescribedandillustratedthroughcomputeranalysesperformedatCEAwiththecomputercodeCATHARE.Thisanalysisrequiresa1Dcodeabletosimulatethewholereactor,includingthecore,thevessel,thepipingandthecomponents(turbine,compressors,heatexchangers). Thispaperisdevotedtodebladingaccidents.Theproblemsandsolutionsencounteredinvarioustypesofgas-turbinesarepresented:aeroengines,steamturbines(EDF-Porchevillesteamturbineaccidentfeedback)andfinallythefeedbackfrompreviousHighTemperatureGasReactorexperiments(EVOheliumloop,HHTprojectandotherHTRprojects)aredisplayed.Fromthisliteraturesurvey,somerecommendationsaredrawnforafutureHighTemperatureReactor.Itisshownthatforsafetyreasonsincaseofdeblading,ahorizontalshaftalignedwiththereactorvesselisrecommendedfortheturbomachinery. ThispaperpresentssimulationsofdifferentscenariiperformedwithCATHAREcode: (a) Turbinedebladingwithandwithoutreactortrip.Inthesecalculations,apessimisticassumptionhasbeenmade:allturbinebladesbreakoff. (b) Totalflowblockage.Theflowareaisentirelyblockedbytheturbineblades. (c) Partialflowblockage.Previousconclusionsconsidertheworstcasesofdebladingandtotalflowblockage.Anintermediatecasebasedonapartialdebladinghasalsobeenperformed. CATHAREresultsillustratethatthelossofturbinebladesisaccompaniedbyabruptchangesinthePowerConversionSystemandreactorflowconditions:largeaxialpressuredrop,reverseflowthroughthecoreandhighratede-pressurization.
