Abstract :
AtpresentDhruvaandCirusreactorsprovidethemajorityofresearchreactorbasedfacilitiestocatertothevariousneedsofavastpoolofresearchersinthefieldofmaterialsciences,physics,chemistry,biosciences,research&developmentworkfornuclearpowerplantsandproductionofradioisotopes.Withaviewtofurtherconsolidateandexpandthescopeofresearchanddevelopmentinnuclearandalliedsciences,anew20MWtmultipurposeresearchreactorisbeingdesigned.Thispaperdescribessomeofthedesignfeaturesandsafetyaspectsofthisreactor.
