Abstract :
Thedesignofa700MWepressurizedheavywaterreactorhasbeendeveloped.Thedesignisbasedonthetwin540MWereactorsatTarapurofwhichthefirstunithasbeenmadecriticalinlessthan5yearsfromconstructioncommencement.Inthe700MWedesignboilingofthecoolant,toalimitedextent,hasbeenallowednearthechannelexit.Whilemakingtheplantlayoutmorecompact,emphasishasbeenonconstructability.Savingincapitalcostofabout15%,overthepresentunits,isexpected.Thepaperdescribessalientdesignfeaturesof700MWepressurizedheavywaterreactor.
