Abstract :
Weexperimentallyinvestigatethede-entrainmentofdropletsbyinertialimpactiononanarrayofverticalrodsinanair-dropletmixtureflow.Thede-entrainmentefficienciesaremeasuredforasinglerod,forasinglerowofrods,andforamulti-rowofrods.Weinvestigatetheeffectsofthedropletmassflux(0.5–5.4kg/m2s),thedropletWebernumber(3000–8000),theairvelocity(0–6m/s),therodgeometry,andthesurfaceroughnessonthede-entrainment,andtheroddiameter-to-pitchratioeffectonthede-entrainment.Theresultsforasinglerodshowthatthede-entrainmentefficiencydecreasesslightlyasthedropletmassfluxincreases;however,inourexperimentalranges,thereisnegligibledependenceonthedropletWebernumber,theairvelocity,andthesurfaceroughness.Therodgeometryaffectsthede-entrainmentefficiency.Theresultsforasinglerowofrodsshowthattheexistenceofneighboringrodspromotesde-entrainmentduetodropletsplashing,andwedevelopacorrelationtoshowtheeffectofdiameter-to-pitchratioonthede-entrainment.Usinginformationonthede-entrainmentefficienciesofasinglerodandthoseofasinglerowofrods,weproposeacorrelationthatpredictsthede-entrainmentefficiencyforamulti-rowofrodswithastaggeredarray.TheRMSerrorsofthecorrelationfromthede-entrainmentefficienciesexperimentallyobtainedarewithin13.5%.
