Abstract :
Thepaperisfocusedonsomeofthedifferentformsoftheanalogybetweenheatandmasstransfer,astheyappearinavailabletextbooksandliteratureoncondensationandevaporation.Themotivationfortheworkistheneedtoclearlypointouttheassumptionsatthebasisofeachoneofthemandtoquantifytherelateddifferencesintheapplicationtorealexperimentaldata.Infact,theanalogyisveryoftencastinapparentlyverydifferentforms,whoserelationtoeachothermustbecarefullyunderstoodwhenaselectionamongthemisperformedforagivenapplication.
Basingonpreviousexperienceintheanalysisofheatandmasstransferforpassivecoolinginlightwaternuclearreactors,thepresentworkbrieflysummarisesthetheoreticalbasesoftheselectedformsoftheanalogy,comparingtherelatedrelationships.Then,anexperimentalactivityrelatedtocondensationonaflatplateinthepresenceofnoncondensablegases,aimedatprovidingdatafornuclearreactorcontainmentanalysis,ispresentedandtheobtainedresultsareprocessedbythedifferentformsoftheanalogytoassesstherelatedquantitativedifferences,thusprovidingaclearerperspectiveabouttheresultsoftheiruseinengineeringapplications.
