Discretionary priority discipline: A reasonable compromise between preemptive and nonpreemptive disciplines Original Research Article

Discretionary priority queuing discipline models are intermediate between traditional preemptive and nonpreemptive disciplines and suggest some advantages over such models. In this note, a discretionary priority queuing discipline is considered for a deterministic service time model, and it is shown that the average system time is shorter than for the preemptive and nonpreemptive models.
