Remarks to the PV number =4.236

The Pisot-Vijayvaraghavan number (PV number) appears frequently in diverse fields, for instance quasi periodic tiling and crystallography. In addition the number plays a significant role in the theory of E (∞) , being the effective expectation value for the topological and Hausdorff dimension of this Cantorian ( fractal) space. This dimension can be derived in a variety of ways. The present paper reviews the various avenues which one may take to arrive at this value. © 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
