Abstract :
We derive the vacuum field equations by variation of a Lagrangian, composed of linear and quadratic curvature terms, with respect to a scalar field φ and to an electromagnetic potential A according to the Kaluza–Klein principle. The type of the vacuum field equations in suitable gauge is discussed.
