Plasma experiments with relevance for the nonlinear behavior of semiconductors

Abrupt transitions between different conduction states of a semiconductor, related to pattern formation, are phenomena the elucidation of which has gained substantial interest in solid-state physics. A possible progress in their understanding can be made considering a self-organization mechanism able to explain similar phenomena observed in gaseous conductors. Some examples justifying this assertion are presented in this paper.
