Abstract
Fractal dynamics has several advantageous properties when a biological system is concerned. It enables to increase significantly the surface of the system while its volume changes slightly. The increase is a consequence of the dynamics and the system need not contain any information and control mechanisms in order to achieve it. These properties are particularly important in growing systems and we demonstrate them on a continuous model of the growth of root. As a consequence of such model, a question of the uptake by the root is discussed and it is shown that a growth limit may arise directly from the fractal dynamics.
