Abstract :
ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of demographic characteristics with kind of veil and rate of hijab in female students. Type of this research was survey. The Sample consisted of 367 female students from the Payam Noor Universities of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province in the second semester of the 2011-2012 school year that were selected by two-stage cluster and simple random sampling. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire which contains some questions about the type of veil, extent of hijab, marital status, place of residence (native or non-native), age, academic major and hometown of college. Data analyzed using descriptive statistics and Cramerʹs V and Kroksal Wallis tests.Results showed:1- Student’ marital status is not related to the type of their veil, but extent of hijab of single students is more than of married students.2- Relationship of place of residence (native or non-native) with students’ kind of veil and extent of hijab is no significant. 3- There is a relationship between studentsʹ age and type of veil, i.e. percentage of students who have manto with full hijab veil, in less than 20 years of age group are more likely; While the percentage of students with veil in all other age groups are more. But age is not significantly related to the amount of wearing hijab. 4- Type of veil and extent of hijab are related to academic major in students; i.e. veil veil and extent of hijab in humanities disciplines’ students are more as compare to students from other disciplines. 5- Type of veil and extent of hijab are related to collage in students; i.e. students of Payam Noor University of Gandoman City are in top of veil wearing and those students who wearing manto with full hijab are more in Payam Noor University of Farsan as compares to other universities; also rate of hijab is more current at Payam Noor University of Brojen and is less current at Payam Noor University of Farsan as compare to other universities.To promote optimal hijab among students, factors such as marital status, age, academic major and hometown of college must be considered.
