Abstract :
We derive the small-Φ asymptotic behaviour of the effective potential Φ4-theory, for m2 > 0, and argue that it implies the non-existence of a particle interpretation of this theory. This conclusion is supported by the small-p2 behaviour of the propagator. The relation to work by other authors is discussed and a tentative interpretation is suggested.
