Abstract
The effective Lagrangian of an electromagnetic field that varyies arbitrarily in space in a dense medium is derived. It has been used for the investigation of the interaction between charged fermions in the medium. The possibility of the formation of metastable electron bound states in the medium when an external magnetic field is applied is shown.
