Are low-energy direct reactions mainly onestep?

Analyses of inclusive nonelastic nucleon emission use inconsistently the gradual absorption into quasibound compound states together with the onestep direct reactions to describe experiments. We perform a sum rule analysis to show that the onestep reactions are misinterpreted.
