Abstract
We present a model study of the competition between the shears mechanism and the rotation of the core. This is done in the framework of a classical solution of a Particles-plus-Rotor Model. The competition is governed by the relative strength of the residual interaction between the blades in the shears and the rotational energy of the core. The results are summarized in terms of a “phase-diagram” of these two modes of rotation that is applicable for all mass regions. We find that in order for the shears mechanism to dominate, the deformation of the core has to be ϵ≲0.12.
