Role of the surface in the critical behavior of finite systems

In this paper we present canonical lattice gas calculations with various surface conditions. We discuss the inclusion of a finite volume constraint through the use of a pressure as an associated Lagrange multiplier. We show that even in small systems the critical fragment size distributions are not much affected by the surface conditions. Critical signals are therefore shown to be a robust indicator of phase transitions in finite systems.
