  • Abstract
The charge and mass transition matrix elements of the neutron-rich isotopes 30,32Mg have been extracted from inelastic scattering on 208Pb and 12C targets at 32 A MeV. The measured inelastic cross sections for the first 2+ states were compared to coupled-channels calculations, which take into account the feeding from higher excited states. The method was tested with 24Mg inelastic scattering data obtained in the same experiment. In the framework of the rotational model, the charge and mass deformations are identical and large (|β|∼0.5–0.6) for both isotopes.
