The social costs of electricity: Do the numbers add up?

This paper considers the credibility of the monetary estimates of the environmental and health damages from electricity. It also evaluates whether the modeling strategies and results can be transferred to other benefit measurement or environmental costing analyses from the existing large scale models developed for the case of electricity. These issues are addressed through a detailed comparative evaluation of several large scale modeling efforts in the US and Europe. Effects of electricity fuel cycles on employment, government revenues and global warming are also considered.
