The numerical approximation of the rotation number of planar maps

Given a convex Jordan curve C, we present a method which computes the numerical approximation of the rotation number of a planar map whose invariant curve is C. It does not require any numerical approximation of the invariant curve, but just exploits the order by which the iterates of the map are generated. Numerical examples are reported and discussed.
