Pointwise and local error estimates for the quantities of interest in two-dimensional elasticity

In this paper, a technique is presented to obtain pointwise and local a posteriori error estimates for the quantities of interest in finite-element approximations to linear elasticity problems. Two numerical experiments on stress concentration problems are presented to validate the analysis. They show that useful error estimates on the global energy of the error and on the local peak stresses can be achieved with coarse meshes.
