Abstract
Comparatively low levels of hepatic EROD activities were observed in feral perch caught in Lake Järnsjön, heavily contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) when compared to reference sites. On the other hand rainbow trout, caged in Lake Järnsjön, exhibited elevated EROD activities, P450 1A1 protein and CYP1A1 mRNA levels. The feral perch from the PCB area were non-responsive towards model P450 1A system inducers. These results suggest a possible pollutant-induced suppression or inactivation of the P450 1A system in feral perch in Lake Järnsjön.
