IE/OR and telecommunication networks in Korea

The advancement of the telecommunication industry in Korea is now facing a new situation which requires highly dependable and efficient telecommunication networks. To build such networks IE/OR techniques are essential. The IE/OR contributions extend from planning and designing to evaluating and maintaining the telecommunication networks. The advanced telecommunication networks established using IE/OR techniques also bring new application and research opportunities to the IE/OR domain. In this article, we review some of the achieved and some of the on-going research work, which present examples of the IE/OR contributions to the evaluation, planning, and design of the telecommunication networks in Korea. We also introduce some challenging research opportunities for IE/OR applications in such areas as telecommunication networks.
