Abstract :
This paperdealswithawell-knownprobleminthegeneralareaofsearchtheory:optimizethesearch
resources sharingsoastomaximizetheprobabilityofdetectionofa(moving)target.However,the
problem weconsiderhereconsiderablydiffersfromtheclassicalone.First,thereisabilevelsearchplan-
ning andwehavetoconsiderjointlydiscreteandcontinuousoptimizationproblems.Tothisperspective
original methodsareproposedwithinacommonframework.Furthermore,thisframeworkissufficiently
general andversatilesoastobeeasilyandsuccessfullyextendedtothedifficultproblemofthemultizone
multisensor searchplanningforaMarkoviantarget.
