Abstract :
The ImprovedPrimalSimplex(IPS) algorithm[ElhallaouiI,MetraneA,DesaulniersG,SoumisF.An
Improved PrimalSimplexalgorithmfordegeneratelinearprograms.SIAMJournalofOptimization,sub-
mitted forpublication]isadynamicconstraintreductionmethodparticularlyeffectiveondegenerate
linear programs.ItisabletoachieveareductioninCPUtimeofoverafactorofthreeonsomeproblems
compared tothecommercialimplementationofthesimplexmethod CPLEX. Wepresentanumberof
further improvementsandeffectiveparameterchoicesfor IPS. Oncertaintypesofdegenerateproblems,
our improvementsyieldCPUtimeslowerthanthoseof CPLEX by afactorof12.
