Abstract
Inthispaperweconcentrateonthesimultaneoussinglemachinescheduling–location(ScheLoc) modelin
the plane.Themodelcombinesboththelocationofthemachineandtheschedulingofthejobsexecuted
bythemachine.Twoobjectivesareanalyzed:themakespanandthetotalcompletiontime.Basicproperties
of themodelsareshownandlowerboundsonthevalueoftheobjectivefunctionsaredeveloped.Single
machineScheLocproblemswithEuclidean,rectilinearandgeneral q normsaresolvedveryefficientlyby
the “bigtrianglesmalltriangle”branch-and-boundapproach.Randomlygeneratedproblemswith10,000
jobsaresolvedinabout5–10minwithinarelativeaccuracyof = 10−5 fromtheglobaloptimum.
