Abstract
We describeanexactmodelforthetwo-dimensionalcuttingstockproblemwithtwostagesandthe
guillotine constraint.Itisanintegerlinearprogramming(ILP)arc-flowmodel,formulatedasaminimum
flow problem,whichisanextensionofamodelproposedbyValériodeCarvalhofortheonedimensional
case. Inthispaper,weexplorethebehaviorofthismodelwhenitissolvedwithacommercialsoftware,
explicitly consideringallitsvariablesandconstraints.Wealsoderiveanewfamilyofcuttingplanesand
a newlowerbound,andconsidersomevariantsoftheoriginalproblem.Themodelwastestedonasetof
real instancesfromthewoodindustry,withverygoodresults.Furthermorethelowerboundsprovided
by thelinearprogrammingrelaxationofthemodelcomparefavorablywiththelowerboundsprovided
by modelsbasedonassignmentvariables.
