Abstract :
With agreatvariationofproducts,PCBassemblingmachinesmustbereconfiguredoften,butatthe
same timetheefficiencyoftheassemblyprocessshouldbekepthigh.InthispaperweconsiderPCB
assemblymachinesofthe radial type, whichareusedformanufacturingrobustelectronicsdevices.In
this machinetypethecomponentsarebroughttotheassemblypointbythemeansofasingle
componenttape,andaroboticarmplacesthemontoabarePCBoneatatime.Thecomponenttapeis
constructedon-linebyaseparatefeederunit(sequencer)composedofasetofslotsstoringcomponent
reels ofvarioustypes.Whiletheinsertionofcomponentstothetapedoesnotnormallydelaytheir
placementsonthePCB,certain(broad)componentsdelaytheprocessingduetotheoperationprinciple
of thesequencer,thusincreasingthemanufacturingtime.Westudytheproblemofassigning
componentstothesequencerinsuchawaythattapeconstructiondelayisminimized,giveaninteger
programmingformulationoftheproblem,andpresentanoptimizationalgorithmtoreducethe
componentinsertiontimecausedbyslowcomponents.Theresultsofthisoptimizationalgorithmshow
considerableimprovementagainstasimplefeederassignment,incaseoftapeinstancescontaining
repeatingsequencesofcomponents.
